«Where to hide in case of shelling»: a bomb shelter was flooded with sewage

In Mykolaiv, at Heroiv Ukrainy Avenue, 87B, the basement, which is documented as a shelter, was flooded with sewage.

Anna Korobankina, a resident of the building, addressed the Mykolaiv City Council contact center with this statement.

«The basement of our house is in terrible condition, according to the documents, it is approved as a bomb shelter. There is a war now, if there is shelling, God forbid, where to hide?», says the appeal.

The management company «City for People» commented on the situation. It was noted there that such a situation arose due to the residents' violation of the sewerage operation conditions.

«The company's specialists cleared the blockage of the sewer outlet. Potato peels, borscht, vinaigrette, noodles, a rag, sand for cat toilets and wet wipes were taken out of it,» the company said.

They emphasized that the sewage system in the building needs to be replaced, but for this the residents must repay the debt within 5 years.

«Regarding the replacement of the sewage network, the company is considering its replacement under the city's co-financing program, but a positive decision depends on the co-owners, who must repay the existing debt. In 2019, the tariff was reduced, and the debt has been growing since then,» the comment reads.

In response to the company's comment, residents of other buildings that are also cared for by City for People are asking the company to allow them to terminate their contract.

«Help us break the contract with you. During our cooperation, you did not do anything for our house. Everything was decided either by the residents themselves or in cooperation with local deputies. The only thing «City for People» does is actively fight with debtors! No wonder the debt is growing. Residents do not see help from you for so long, because your tariffs are far from small. What to pay for???», Svitlana Smirnova commented on the company's response.

We will remind you that previously residents of Mykolaiv complained about the neglected state of the sewer pipe at 35 General Karpenko Street. On September 3, the pipe burst in the basement of the building, and later it rotted and fell off. However, ZHEK «Lisky-M» ignores all appeals from local residents.

Also in Mykolaiv , the owners of private garages on Hospitalna Street complain about the regular leakage of sewage from overcrowded manholes. Every day at around 9 a.m., water with impurities and feminine hygiene products from the City Hospital is discharged from the manholes on the territory of the garages №1, which is located nearby.

In addition, residents of the Ternivka micro-district recently complained about sanitation vehicles that pour sewage into landings and sewer hatches, instead of the places officially designated for this purpose.

Earlier, in Novy Bug, local residents were indignant at the inaction of the authorities and the utility company «Dobrobut», which still have not identified an official place for sewage disposal. Locals noticed how sanitation vehicles poured smelly waste into the manhole of a non-working sewage network near the city council.

Previously, «Mykolaivvodokanal» complained that the townspeople throw into the toilets what should be in the trash.

It was also reported that in the center of Mykolaiv, cafe workers poured sewage into the storm drain.
