In Pivdennoukrainsk, the police have until the end of September to investigate the situation regarding the damaged CT scanner, worth 19.5 million hryvnias. Law enforcement officials will decide whether to bring charges or close the case.

This came to light during a meeting of the executive committee of the South Ukrainian City Council, according to NikVesti.

It should be recalled that the CT scanner broke down last year due to a power surge. It transpired that it had been installed without a voltage stabiliser, which was the cause of the breakdown. As a result, the local authority was forced to urgently allocate 1.5 million hryvnias from the budget for repairs and 515,000 for the purchase of equipment to protect the CT scanner in future.

Details of the case were entered into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations on 25 November 2025. Law enforcement officers were tasked with establishing the facts and identifying those responsible for commissioning the machine in breach of safety requirements.

According to Vadym Fedorchuk, head of Police Station №3, the pre-trial investigation is ongoing. By the end of September, the police must decide whether to bring charges or close the case.

«Following the complaint, details were entered into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations. The pre-trial investigation in this case is ongoing. I believe that by the end of September, a lawful decision will be taken regarding these criminal proceedings. Specifically, either the criminal proceedings will be closed, or the individual will be served with a notice of suspicion,» said Vadym Fedorchuk.

It should be noted that the CT scanner was purchased in 2019 for 19.5 million hryvnias. The funds were allocated from the municipal and state budgets. Following this, the hospital refurbished the premises where the equipment was installed.

It should be recalled that earlier in Pivdennoukrainsk, there were plans to close the maternity and paediatric wards of the city’s general hospital due to financial difficulties.

In July, Chief Medical Officer Serhii Lupov revokedthe relevant order following joint efforts with the city authorities and the new head of the city’s military administration, Ivan Kukhta.

At the same time, the hospital is facing financial difficulties. In particular, the hospital is requesting that 8.6 million hryvniasin repayable financial assistance, previously received from the local community, be written off.
