Inclusive education in Mykolaiv is organised for 590 school pupils and 365 nursery school children.

This is discussed in the NikVesti article «Autism spectrum disorders: how Mykolaiv helps children adapt and develop».

Currently, inclusive education is organised in 52 schools and 38 nurseries in Mykolaiv. At the same time, if required and provided the necessary documents are available, inclusive education can be organised in virtually any educational institution in the city, with the exception of special schools.

In addition, five schools in the city have special classes for children with special educational needs, and 42 nurseries have special groups for children with speech, intellectual and complex developmental disorders.

«The choice of educational institution and form of education is made by the child’s parents or legal guardians, taking into account the opinion of the inclusive resource centre and the child’s best interests,» notes Head of the Education Department Hanna Lychko.

It is also noted that the educational process for such children is supported by teaching assistants, practical psychologists, speech therapists, special needs teachers and other specialists. At the same time, the Department of Education notes that the issue of staffing remains a priority, particularly regarding the recruitment of specialist staff.

As a reminder, Mykolaiv has been providing a social support service for inclusive education since the year before last. Support for 42 children with disabilities is funded from the city budget.
