Representatives of the municipal enterprise «Mykolaiv Parks» cut down an 88-year-old willow tree near the «Phoenix» restaurant (formerly «Shambala») at the initiative of the establishment’s owners.

This is stated in the tree inspection report, a copy of which is in the possession of the editorial team at NikVesti.

The survey was carried out by a commission comprising representatives of the Department of Housing and Communal Services and the State Environmental Inspectorate following a request from the municipal enterprise «Mykolaiv Parks». The basis for this was a statement by a citizen, D. Sadridinov, dated 26 March, who reported a potential emergency situation. The appeal was likely submitted by Dzhamshed Sadridinov, the brother of the restaurant owner and Mykolaiv Regional Council deputy, Tahir Sadridinov.

During the inspection, experts established that the 88-year-old willow tree near the restaurant’s wooden arbour at 4-A Naberezhna Street was in poor condition: the tree was infested with fungi, showed signs of rot and had a significant angle of inclination. Due to the risk of it falling, the willow was recommended for immediate removal.

As of now, the tree has already been felled. However, another willow remains nearby — a 60-year-old, double-trunked specimen. The commission assessed its condition as satisfactory, so it was decided to preserve the tree, carrying out only ‘moderate rejuvenation’.

As a reminder, in early March, several hazardous trees were felled on Flotsky Boulevard; shortly afterwards, staff from the city council’s architecture department planted young trees in their place. As Mykolaiv’s chief architect, Yevhen Poliakov, explained, the saplings were purchased using money raised by department staff during the Christmas holidays.

By April, reports had emerged that further poplars on Flotskyi Boulevard in Mykolaiv were set to be felled, as the municipal enterprise «Mykolaiv Parks» had classified them as hazardous. However, representatives of the State Environmental Inspectorate state that they see no signs of danger and insist on a professional assessment being carried out.
