Public utilities report on the fight against ice in Mykolaiv, and the mayor calls for employees to be allowed to leave work early

Freezing rain turned the streets of Mykolaiv into a skating rink: municipal workers brought out special equipment, and the mayor called on employers to let their employees go home early. But some sidewalks remain slippery, forcing residents to walk around dangerous areas on the grass.

Municipal workers report that six special vehicles from the ELU Avtodorig municipal enterprise have been deployed on the roads, with two more planned to be brought in. They are treating descents, ascents, roundabouts and bridges with anti-icing materials.

Mykolaiv Parks reported that they are sprinkling sidewalks and areas near public transport stops.

At the same time, as noted by a NikVesti correspondent, the situation remains difficult on some streets — sidewalks and roads are slippery, and in some places, residents are forced to walk on lawns to avoid dangerous areas.

Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych appealed to the heads of enterprises, institutions, and organisations to end the working day early where possible.

«Where possible, please consider ending the working day early and letting people go home earlier. The streets are very slippery right now, so the safety of employees is paramount. At the same time, we are ensuring the continuous operation of services and critical infrastructure facilities,» the statement said.

Earlier it was reported that it had started raining in Mykolaiv, with black ice already forming in some places. According to weather forecasts, this weather will continue until the evening.
