The baby found in a rubbish bin in Mykolaiv is in stable condition and is under medical supervision in the neonatal ward of the regional children's clinical hospital.

This was reported to NikVesti by Iryna Tkachenko, head of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration's Health Department.

«The child is in stable condition and is being treated in the neonatal ward of the regional children's clinical hospital. She is being cared for by doctors. The process of preparing documents to obtain the status of a child in difficult life circumstances is currently underway. There is a specific procedure, which cannot be completed in a week,» she said.

According to Iryna Tkachenko, the question of the child's future placement will be decided later — either in a specialised institution contracted by the National Health Service of Ukraine or with a family that will take her into care. Social services will handle this.

The head of the regional health department also reported that the boy was 1 or 2 days old at the time of the incident.

«He was 1-2 days old when he came to us. We confirmed this based on the condition of the umbilical cord and other physiological signs. According to the examinations, no congenital defects were found. We did everything possible for the child, and the legal process of processing the documents is continuing,» added Iryna Tkachenko.

At the same time, the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Mykolaiv region told NikVesti that investigators are continuing to establish the identity of the person who abandoned the child.

As a reminder, the newborn baby was found in a rubbish bin in Mykolaiv on 26 January. The incident occurred at around 13:30 on Lazurna Street in the Namyv microdistrict. As reported at the time, the baby was in stable condition and doctors began examining him.
