Mykolaiv will apply to participate in the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers' experimental project to create a municipal rental housing fund. If the community is selected, rental housing may be built in the city with the help of donor funds.

The decision to participate in the project was supported by Mykolaiv City Council deputies during a session on 29 January, according to NikVesti.

As explained by Tetiana Shulichenko, director of the city council's economic development department, the Cabinet of Ministers has already adopted a resolution to launch the pilot project, and the council's decision is required for Mykolaiv to participate in the selection of communities.

«If Mykolaiv is selected to participate in the experiment, the city will be able to build a municipal housing fund for rent. The conditions for implementation, land plot and financing, in particular from donor funds, will be determined after the selection,» said Tetiana Shulichenko.

Currently, no funding from the city budget is provided for participation in the experiment. At the same time, if the project is implemented, co-financing from the Mykolaiv budget may be considered, in particular to cover VAT. The final financing conditions will be determined after the decision on the selection of the community.

As is known, Mykolaiv is preparing to launch a municipal housing project. In November 2024, work began on the fund and the utility company that will manage it.

Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych explained that this will help provide housing for displaced persons and socially vulnerable groups. Some of the flats will be rented at market prices, while others will be rented at preferential rates.

In addition, Danish investors plan to build up to 10,000 apartments in Mykolaiv. The city will receive some of them as social housing, and the investor will use the rest at its discretion.
