As of the end of 2025, there are 92 shelters operating in educational institutions in Mykolaiv. All schools in the city are equipped with alarm buttons, and most have alarm and video surveillance systems.
This was announced by Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych during his report on activities for 2025, according to a correspondent for NikVesti.
According to the mayor, there are currently more than 3,700 schoolchildren and more than 7,300 preschoolers studying in Mykolaiv, so the process of equipping shelters in educational institutions is ongoing.
Also, in 2025, the city's education sector received humanitarian aid — furniture, equipment, and technology — worth about 28 million hryvnias from international partners.
As an example of effective cooperation with international donors, Oleksandr Sienkevych cited the restoration of Gymnasium No. 10 in the Inhulskyi district of Mykolaiv, which was hit by missiles twice in 2022. As a result of the strike, the building of the educational institution was destroyed, and the roof was significantly damaged by the blast wave.
«In fact, today, at the expense of GIZ, this school has been completely renovated: all classrooms, corridors, windows and doors have been replaced. Part of the roof has already been repaired, and now this work is being carried out at the expense of the capital construction department. Through this cooperation — where KP Zakhyst built shelters, GIZ carried out repairs, and ВСС is replacing the roof — we have managed to open a school in an area where few educational institutions have shelters,» said the mayor of Mykolaiv.
Earlier, NikVesti reported that a tender for 9.2 million hryvnias had been announced for the major repair of the roof of Gymnasium No. 10, which was destroyed by a blast wave. According to the tender documentation, the contractor must complete the work by 30 August 2026. At the same time, the director of the Capital Construction Department of the Mykolaiv City Council, Oleksii Savchuk, suggested that the repairs could be completed earlier.
