Over the past week, more than 500 attacks with various types of weapons were recorded in Odesa Oblast. The main target of the enemy remains port infrastructure and logistics hubs.
This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction Oleksii Kuleba during a meeting with journalists on the situation in the region, TSN reports.
He paid special attention to the bridge near the village of Maiaky, which is strategically important for Odesa region. The facility has been attacked more than 20 times over the past day.
«I was just there, there was an attack right in front of our eyes on the bridge by a UAV «Shahed». Luckily, it did not hit the bridge, but nevertheless, the attacks have been going on constantly for the last day. There have been more than 20 UAV attacks on this bridge», said Oleksii Kuleba.
A group of engineers together with the head of the Recovery Agency is working on the spot to assess the damage and coordinate repairs.
He also said that a pontoon bridge was deployed yesterday at 16:00 to ensure communication. Its operation is complicated by security protocols — the State Emergency Service and the police regulate traffic, ensuring reverse traffic.
«We will work out a plan to expand our logistics capabilities. Within a week, we will deploy two alternative routes: one permanent, the other — another pontoon bridge», said Oleksii Kuleba.
Earlier it was reported that traffic across the bridge in Maiaky in Odesa Oblast had partially resumed after the Russian attack.
As a reminder, traffic on the bridge on the M-15 «Odesa-Reni» highway in the village of Mayaki was blocked due to damage caused by shelling. As a result, freight traffic is being redirected through other checkpoints with Moldova.
During the night and day of 19 December, the Russian army massively attacked the bridge in Maiaky, using 15 kamikaze drones and a ballistic missile.
Due to the suspension of traffic on the Odesa-Reni highway, the State Customs Service recommended that citizens and carriers use alternative checkpoints on the border with Moldova.
In addition, starting 20 December, «Ukrzaliznytsia» has assigned an additional group of wagons to Chisinau from Odesa and Kyiv.
