The mayor of Ochakiv, Serhii Bychkov, believes that instead of nets to protect the city from Russian FPV drones, more electronic warfare equipment should be purchased.

The mayor said this in a comment to NikVesti.

«We are working on defence. To give you an idea, 95% of FPV drones crash. If they all came here, we would be screwed,» said Serhii Bychkov.

Nevertheless, a certain number of FPV drones reach Ochakiv almost every day. Civilians, local residents and their homes are among the victims.

According to the mayor, instead of installing nets, Ochakiv should be provided with more electronic warfare devices, as this is a more effective way to protect against Russian FPV drones.

«Look, the protective nets are good, but they break through. The first drone breaks through, the second comes in. If there is a net, they can see it. This is unnecessary attention. But I think it's better to provide electronic warfare systems — modern installations that already exist. This is money. Let them fall into the water or into the shore somewhere, rather than flying around the city looking for our nets,» the mayor explained.

After a pause, he added: «But there are some issues in places where it is necessary to completely block the entrance to the city or some road, because it is dangerous there. They shoot there so that it is impossible to drive through. This is another issue».

As a reminder, nets are being installed on certain sections of roads in communities in Mykolaiv Oblast to protect against Russian FPV drones, Vitalii Kim, head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, told NikVesti.

In general, the first anti-drone tunnel to protect civilian and military transport from attacks by enemy FPV drones was built in Zaporizhzhia region.

The anti-drone tunnel allows for safer movement of personnel and equipment and evacuation of the wounded. For civilians, it reduces the risks of travelling within the frontline areas.

According to the website Texty.org.ua, Russian troops were the first to use such protective structures. It is believed that a fishing net stretched over the road is more effective than a chain-link fence, as it almost guarantees the detonation of FPV drones.
