Pivdenoukrainsk is planning to dismantle and restore a number of memorials to bring them in line with Ukrainian legislation and state language standards.
The relevant document is posted on the official website of the city council.
It is noted that the community inspected the Memorial Complex of the Defenders of Ukraine, Victory Square, Mrii Boulevard, the rocks «Pugach», as well as memorials in the settlements of the community — the village of Kostiantynivka and the villages of Buzke, Pankratove and Ivanivka.
In particular, they plan to dismantle
- the «Eternal Flame» structure near the Memorial Complex of the Defenders of Ukraine;
- a monument to Soviet physicist Igor Kurchatov on Mrii Boulevard;
- a memorial sign «1941-1945» in the same area.
At the same time, the restoration of other memorials is planned. For example, Soviet stars will be removed from the plaques with the names of the victims, and Russian-language inscriptions will be replaced with Ukrainian ones on the «sign in memory of the war in Afghanistan» and the «Chernobyl Madonna» memorial. The Victory Square will also have its name corrected and Soviet references to «40th anniversary of the victory of the Soviet people» removed, and the inscriptions on the «Puhach» memorial will be translated into Ukrainian, the star will be replaced with the Ukrainian flag, and the area around it will be renovated.
In addition, the dismantling and restoration of the memorials will be carried out in Kostiantynivka, Buzke, Pankratove and Ivanivka in accordance with the inspection report of June 2025.
These plans are to be carried out by the municipal enterprise «and the municipal service» with the possibility of involving contractors. Control over the implementation of the decision is entrusted to the relevant deputy commission of the city council.
It should be noted that in January this year, Pivdenoukrainsk already had a decision to dismantle the same three memorials.
As a reminder, in June 2025, the Verkhovna Rada decided to rename 185 settlements as part of de-Russification and decolonisation. Among them are 10 in the Mykolaiv region.
Before that, the Verkhovna Rada renamed 18 settlements in Mykolaiv region.
In addition, in May 2025, Voznesensk officially renamed the 1st of May Park. Its new name is Sobornosti Park.
