In Mykolaiv, trolleybuses will be equipped with panic buttons to improve passenger safety.

According to Yurii Smetana, director of the municipal enterprise «Mykolaivelectrotrans», during an online briefing on 3 September, the installation of the system will be completed this week.

«Each trolleybus will have a panic button near the driver. If a conflict situation arises in the vehicle, the driver will be able to press it, and the State Security Service response team will immediately arrive,» he explained.

To implement the project, the company signed an agreement with the Security Police Department in Mykolaiv region to provide services for monitoring the trolleybus alarm system. The agreement provides for the installation of trackers with an automatic centralised monitoring system (ACMS) on all vehicles of the company.

The price of the security services is 320 hryvnias per tracker per month, with the total contract value of 99.8 thousand hryvnias for 78 trackers.

In addition, UAH 33.6 thousand was spent on electrical work and installation of equipment for traffic monitoring.

The agreement is valid from 1 September to 31 December 2025 and includes rules for interaction between the parties in cases of force majeure, violations of the terms of the agreement and anti-corruption provisions.

According to Yuriy Smetana, the main purpose of the innovation is to ensure the safety of passengers and staff during travel and prompt response to any emergency or conflict situations.

As a reminder, two new autonomous trolleybus routes will start running in Korabelnyi district of Mykolaiv on Monday, 18 August.
