On Saturday, 23 August, Kharkiv celebrated its 371st anniversary. For the first time since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the city switched on the festive illumination in the form of a starry sky.
Hundreds of people gathered in the centre. Citizens sang the Ukrainian anthem and patriotic songs, local media reported.
Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov congratulated the residents on the holiday and stressed that even under daily enemy shelling, Kharkiv residents retain their strength of spirit and faith in victory.
«"We are able to enjoy simple things and make plans for the future, even when our city is under enemy attack every day. Together we hear sirens and live under explosions, but never at the behest of someone else. We are united by one life, one circumstance, one hope and one struggle. Our spirit cannot be broken, because our love for Kharkiv is boundless, because our faith in Ukraine is unshakable»," wrote Igor Terekhov.
It is worth noting that the city was decorated with new installations for Kharkiv Day. They appeared in the centre of Kharkiv, in particular on Constitution Square, near the Opera and Ballet Theatre and Shevchenko Garden.
According to Kharkiv City Council spokesperson Yurii Sydorenko, the city was decorated at the expense of benefactors, «Suspilne» reports. The city council spokesman noted that not a single penny of the budget was spent on decorations and installations.
As a reminder, Mykolaiv celebrated its 235th anniversary since the city was founded. Residents of the city were able to take part in various interactive events and activities: a bike ride, fairs, exhibitions and concerts.
