Another group of prisoners of war, most of whom had been held in Russian captivity since 2022, has returned to Ukraine. Among them are the defenders of Mariupol, border guards, National Guard and Armed Forces of Ukraine.
This was announced by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
«We continue exchanges, another stage. Today, soldiers of the Armed Forces, the National Guard, and the State Border Guard Service are returning. Most of them have been in captivity since the year 22. We are doing everything we can to find each of them, to check the information on each name. We have to bring all of them home. I am grateful to everyone who helps us in this,» the President said.
According to Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets, many of them were captured during the defence of Mariupol. The youngest soldier who was returned home is 24 years old, the oldest is 62 years old.
As a reminder, on 20 June, another prisoner exchange took place between Ukraine and Russia, as part of the agreements reached during the second round of talks in Istanbul.
