Mykolaiv will completely replace the water supply network in Korabelnyi district. The work is funded by the Danish government through the international organisation NEFCO.
This was announced by Borys Dudenko during his live broadcast on social media today, 6 June, according to NikVesti.
The project provides not only for the replacement of pipes, but also for the installation of a modern system for monitoring water leaks and consumption, which will reduce losses and ensure 100% metering.
«Today we have started working on a very large project funded by the Danish government through NEFCO — a complete replacement of the networks in the Korabelnyi district. Later, a system for monitoring leaks and what we consume will be installed there in order to reduce our losses and to ensure 100% water metering,» said Borys Dudenko.
As you know, on 29 May, the city council approved two grant agreements worth 7.2 million euros and 6.1 million euros.
«The contracts with the contractor are now in place, an agreement between Mykolaiv City Council, NEFCO and the contractor selected under NEFCO procedures. This is a significant step that will allow us to continue working and implementing this really important project for Mykolaiv,» Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych wrote in his Telegram.
The project includes:
- replacement of several kilometres of pipes of various diameters;
- installation of 55 «smart» meters with online data transmission;
- modernisation of three pumping stations.
Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych recalled that the grant agreement with NEFCO was signed in April 2024. At the time, he noted that this was the first such project in the city, which should improve the quality of services and significantly reduce water losses.
According to Borys Dudenko, the plan is to extend this experience to other districts of Mykolaiv.
«Next, we will scale up these projects to the city, we are negotiating with other donors, but this is a long story. Because Mykolaiv has about 1200 kilometres of water supply networks and about 800 kilometres of sewerage networks. This will also cause some inconvenience, because 60-70% of the network replacement is done in an open way, which is inconvenient for traffic and pedestrians. Therefore, we have gradually started replacing the networks,» he added.
Earlier it was reported that Borys Dudenko, director of «Mykolaivvodokanal», hopes that the construction of the water supply system will be completed by the end of the summer and the city will receive good quality water from the taps.
As a reminder, the reconstruction of the water utility's treatment facilities, which are required to launch the new water supply system in Mykolaiv, will cost around 70 million hryvnias. When the new water supply system is launched in autumn 2025, the water in the taps of Mykolaiv residents will meet sanitary standards.
At the same time, it is known that the construction of new water treatment facilities in Mykolaiv was previously estimated at 132 million euros. However, the construction of the water supply system from Nova Odesa reduced the cost of these works by 2.5 times, as the water quality in that section of the Southern Bug is better than expected.
