In the Kulbakyne neighbourhood of Mykolaiv, dirty water has been flowing from the taps for about a week now. Borys Dudenko, director of the municipal enterprise «Mykolaivvodokanal», told about this during a live broadcast on InstagramNikVesti.

He said that the water utility's employees have been working for a week to «clean the» network from dirty water.

«Indeed, the situation in Kulbakino is quite bad with the quality of the water, namely its colour. We have been cleaning the networks for a week now. There was a slight improvement at the beginning of the week, but then again. I think that a few more washes and the situation will improve. We are doing everything in our power,» said Borys Dudenko.

According to him, the situation could be affected by the increased water consumption due to the onset of the summer period, in particular, due to irrigation, which uses tap water. Due to the increased water velocity, rust began to be washed away, which led to the characteristic orange colour of the water.

«Also, the increased water disassembly may have an impact. We see that watering has started and the water velocity in the pipes has increased, so the rust that has formed on the inner walls is washed away, and we have this colour, these are some inconveniences,» said Borys Dudenko.

At the same time, he urged residents of high-rise buildings to contact their management companies to flush the intra-building networks.

«Please contact the management companies that service your buildings so that together with the management companies you can flush the networks in the buildings, because the in-building systems are also quite old, and salt water continues to destroy them. Therefore, we will work with the management companies to minimise such problems,» said the director of the water utility.

Earlier it was reported that Borys Dudenko, Director of «Mykolaivvodokanal», hopes that the construction of the water supply system will be completed by the end of the summer and the city will receive good quality water from the taps.

As a reminder, the reconstruction of the water utility's treatment facilities, which are required to launch the new water supply system in Mykolaiv, will cost around 70 million hryvnias. When the new water supply system is launched in autumn 2025, the water in the taps of Mykolaiv residents will meet sanitary standards.

At the same time, it is known that the construction of new water treatment facilities in Mykolaiv was previously estimated at 132 million euros. However, the construction of the water supply system from Nova Odesa reduced the cost of these works by 2.5 times, as the water quality in that section of the Southern Bug is better than expected.
