President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on Russian President Vladimir Putin's proposal for direct talks, calling it a «good sign». However, Zelenskyy stressed that a ceasefire is needed before a real dialogue with Russia can begin.
He wrote about this on social media.
«This is a good sign that the Russian side has finally started talking about negotiations. Everyone in the world has been waiting for this for a long time,» the President of Ukraine said.
At the same time, Zelenskyy stressed that it is important to ensure a ceasefire to start any constructive negotiations, as there is no point in continuing hostilities for even one day.
«We expect Russia to confirm its readiness for a ceasefire — complete, lasting and reliable — starting from 12 May. Ukraine is ready to meet,» the Head of State added.
As a reminder, Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced his desire to resume direct talks with Ukraine, which were suspended at the end of 2022.
