Shelling of Mykolaiv CHP: losses amounted to over ₴500 million

The shelling of the Mykolaiv thermal power plant caused more than 500 million hryvnias in environmental damage.
This was reported by the State Ecological Inspectorate of the South-Western District.
After the shelling on 16 February 2025, the land on the territory of the Mykolaiv CHPP was severely polluted.
According to the State Environmental Inspectorate, an area of 15,500 square metres was contaminated. The total volume of waste is about 120 cubic metres. Environmentalists estimated the damage at 536 million hryvnias.
Shelling of Mykolaiv on 16 February
On 16 February, at 0:50 a.m., the first explosion occurred in Mykolaiv. Later it became known that the city was under attack by drones. By 1:42 a.m., six more explosions had occurred in Mykolaiv.
In the morning, the head of the Mykolaiv regional military administration, Vitalii Kim, said that the strike had damaged critical infrastructure and apartment buildings. At least four shops, a catering facility and offices were also damaged.
In addition, a 64-year-old man was injured in the attack. He was hospitalised and his condition is currently assessed as satisfactory.
Later, it became known that as a result of the nighttime Russian shelling, some residents of the city were left without heat supply.
