Vitalii Kim, who recently took charge of the Ministry of Veterans’ Affairs, has promised to champion the interests of the Mykolaiv region in the national budget.

He made this statement in a video address today, 17 July, according to NikVesti.

«For my part, I will continue to work to ensure that the Mykolaiv region receives funding from the state budget. All projects will continue, and support will be even greater. I am not abandoning the «South 2.0» project; I will be working on it.

I am taking on this important role because I realise how vital this is for our young people. I would like to thank the people of Mykolaiv once again for their trust – everyone we’ve worked with, whether things worked out or not; everything will be alright. In my heart and soul, I’m still a Mykolaiv resident; I’m proud of that, and I’ll take our culture and our traditions to a higher level so that everyone can experience them,» said Vitalii Kim.

It should be noted that Vitalii Kim has taken charge of the Ministry of Veterans’ Affairs. Heorhii Reshetilov will act as head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration.

News that Vitalii Kim might become Ukraine’s new Minister for Veterans’ Affairs first emerged on 15 July. He had been head of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration since November 2020. He gained popularity among Ukrainians at the start of the full-scale invasion, becoming one of the most recognisable regional leaders in Ukraine thanks to his public communications during the Russian attacks.

Prior to his appointment, he managed businesses in the private sector. According to the results of a sociological survey conducted by SOCIS, as of January 2026 he ranked first in the list of regional leaders with the highest level of trust among Ukrainians.
