Kremlin spokesman Dmitrii Peskov said that Moscow's position on US President Donald Trump's proposal to freeze the front line for the start of negotiations has not changed.
This was reported by the Russian agency «Interfax».
«This topic has been repeatedly raised, raised with various nuances in the course of Russian-American contacts, and the Russian side has given an answer every time, and this answer is well known: the consistency of the Russian position has not changed», Dmitrii Peskov said.
According to the BBC Russian service, Russia continues to insist on the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the territories it is trying to occupy. Back in November 2024, the Kremlin spokesman said that Russia does not accept the option of ending the war against Ukraine by «freezing» the front line.
At the same time, Volodymyr Zelenskyy agreed with the words of the American president, noting that «we have to stop where we are now, and Donald Trump is right — it is important to stop this and then start a conversation».
As a reminder, Donald Trump said that he intends to end Russia's war against Ukraine as soon as possible and is convinced that «is already quite close to this». He also assured that he would not allow the war in Ukraine to escalate to the level of a global conflict.
