Trump said the US cannot deplete its stockpile of Tomahawk missiles: «We need them»

US President Donald Trump has said that the United States has enough Tomahawk missiles, but the country itself also needs them.

He said this at a press conference at the White House on 16 October.

«We also need Tomahawks for the United States of America. We have a lot of them, but we need them. We cannot deplete our country. They are very important. They are very powerful. They are very accurate. They are very good. But we also need them,» Donald Trump said.

The President also said that he had a «good conversation» with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin on 16 October. According to him, during the conversation, he asked Putin if he would mind if the US gave Ukraine several thousand Tomahawk missiles.

«He did not like the idea,» Donald Trump added, smiling.

In addition, the head of the White House noted that his meeting with Putin in Hungary could take place in the near future — «probably within two weeks». According to Trump, Senator Marco Rubio is also due to meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov soon.

It should be noted that Donald Trump recently said that the decision to give Ukraine Tomahawk missiles «has been made to some extent», but stressed that he does not want to escalate with Russia.

He noted that he is ready to give Ukraine Tomahawk cruise missiles if the war with Russia is not resolved. According to him, such a statement is an element of pressure on the Kremlin, and he plans to discuss this issue personally with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

At the same time, Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed that Ukraine's use of Tomahawk missiles «would damage relations between Moscow and Washington». Later, the Kremlin stated that it was waiting for concrete decisions from the United States on the possible supply of cruise missiles to Ukraine.

We would also like to remind you that on Friday, 17 October, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is scheduled to meet with Donald Trump. The US president stressed that one of the topics of the talks would be the supply of Tomahawk missiles.
