Security guarantees for Ukraine mean that European countries are ready to give a military response to Russia in the event of a new attack after the peace agreement.
This was stated by President of Finland Alexander Stubb in an interview with The Guardian.
«Security guarantees are a deterrent. It has to be strong to be credible», said Alexander Stubb.
According to him, Russia will not have any veto over the format of these guarantees. «This is a sovereign decision of Ukraine. Moscow will not agree, but it does not matter», he added.
The Finnish president also admitted that there is little chance of engaging Vladimir Putin in negotiations now. In his opinion, the Russian dictator has made «the biggest strategic mistake since the end of the Cold War» and failed all his goals, but he is unlikely to admit it in the near future.
As a reminder, US Special Representative Keith Kellogg believes that Ukraine will have to take into account the realities of the Russian occupation and advised «to look at the situation in the long term».
Earlier, Zelenskyy said that Trump's clear position is needed to end the war.
