Deputy Mayor of Mykolaiv and Head of the Recovery Working Group Serhii Korenev and First Deputy Director of the Housing and Utilities Department Ihor Nabatov took part in a workshop in Barcelona to learn about urban planning, housing reconstruction and the cluster recovery method.
Vice Mayor Serhii Koreniev announced this on his Facebook page.
Representatives of the World Bank and the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine invited the Mykolaiv delegation to participate in the workshop as part of the HOPE project.
Sergiy Korenev noted that 21 clusters have already been approved in Mykolaiv, which include 54 apartment buildings that were damaged by shelling. He added that this is the largest number of clusters among all project participants.

«We have been working hard to form these clusters — from spatial analysis to damage assessment. And now, at the stage of practical implementation, it is important for us to have high-quality international experience that will allow us to make the recovery not fragmentary but comprehensive: with the improvement of courtyards, energy-efficient solutions, playgrounds and infrastructure. Barcelona is an example of how a modern city can be rebuilt systematically, intelligently and with a focus on the needs of the community. This is exactly the approach we want to implement in Mykolaiv,» wrote Serhii Koreniev.
It should be noted that Serhii Koreniev is a defendant in a court case regarding embezzlement during the reconstruction of Soborna Square. In July 2024, Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych commented on this fact. He said that all international partners working with Mykolaiv were aware of this.
Currently, another investigation is underway in Mykolaiv's housing and utilities sector — into the possible misappropriation of budget funds at the municipal enterprise «Self-supporting construction mechanisation section». The case involves an employee of the company, Serhii Bezdolnyi, who is charged with violating Article 191, paragraph 4 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (misappropriation of property on a large scale). He faces up to 8 years in prison.
