Russian troops are concentrating near the border with Kharkiv region, which may indicate preparations for an offensive on Kharkiv or Sumy. Analysts recall that these cities were previously mentioned in the Kremlin's threats during the Istanbul talks.
This was reported by Sky News.
According to estimates, about 50,000 troops have been gathered near the border, most of them concentrated near Kharkiv. Russia pulled back its forces after pushing Ukrainian troops out of the border areas of the Kursk region.
British military analyst Michael Clarke believes that Russia has several months of active hostilities until weather conditions make the offensive more difficult. He suggests that Russian troops may try to break through to Kharkiv, Sumy, or seize the territories liberated by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in autumn 2022.
According to the Chief of Staff of the 13th Brigade «Charter», Andrii Pomahaibus, the enemy is currently conducting only limited attacks that are not yielding results. At the same time, there are clear preparations for more active actions.
Jack Watling, an expert at the Royal United Services Institute for Defence Studies, believes that Russia can gradually increase the intensity of its attacks without the large-scale use of heavy equipment. He also notes that Russia's armoured vehicles and artillery stocks are rapidly dwindling and could be exhausted by mid-autumn.
As a reminder, during a telephone conversation with European leaders, US President Donald Trump admitted that Vladimir Putin has no intention of stopping the war in Ukraine, as he believes that Russia is winning.
