After meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Rome, US Vice President J.D. Vance said that both countries are united by a desire to end the war.
In a post on Platform X, he emphasised that the US and Ukraine share a common goal — to stop «the unnecessary bloodshed in Ukraine».
According to him, the meeting discussed topical issues, including the progress of ceasefire negotiations and the possibility of establishing a lasting peace.
On 18 May, the President, together with First Lady Olena Zelenska, attended the inaugural mass of the new Pope Leo XIV, after which he had an audience with the pontiff. On the same day, Zelenskyy met with US Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, their first face-to-face conversation since the White House conflict in February.
