US President Donald Trump said he plans to arrive in Turkey on Friday, 16 May, to take part in talks between Ukraine and Russia.
According to The Guardian, Trump emphasised that he would visit «if it is appropriate».
Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that he had no information on whether Russian President Vladimir Putin would attend the talks in Istanbul on 15 May. At the same time, he did not rule out the possibility of his own participation in this event.
«I actually said why Putin should go if I don't go. I didn't plan to go, and I said I didn't think Putin would go if I didn't go, and that turned out to be true,» Trump said.
As a reminder, today, 15 May, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha met in Turkey with his colleagues from Germany, Poland and France — Jean-Noël Barrot, Johannes Wadefull and Radoslaw Sikorski.
According to the Washington Post, Russia may be represented at the talks by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Presidential Adviser on International Affairs Yurii Ushakov.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that he was looking forward to direct talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Turkey.
