US Congressman Greg Meeks, a representative of the Democratic Party, has introduced a new bill to help Ukraine. The document provides for funding for security, post-war reconstruction, and tougher sanctions against Russia.
This was reported by Reuters, which has read the text of the bill.
According to the initiative, Ukraine is to receive financial support for reconstruction, as well as assistance for the purchase of weapons and military equipment. The bill also provides for the creation of a special coordinator for Ukraine's reconstruction.
The document was submitted two weeks after the Senate Republicans and Democrats proposed another bill on sanctions against Russia in the event of a refusal to hold peace talks.
The bill has not yet been officially released, and its fate in Congress remains unknown. One lawmaker noted that this document will be part of a broader discussion.
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that US President Donald Trump's approach to war is based on the principle of «peace through strength», which currently applies only to Ukraine.
