Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen believes that Europe must achieve full defence self-sufficiency over the next three to five years to counter «a very aggressive» Russia that could pose a threat to EU countries.

This was reported by Politico.

«I fully support the rearmament of Europe. We must set ourselves an ambitious goal: to be able to defend ourselves in three to five years,» she said.

Mette Frederiksen stressed that rearmament has become «the most important task» for the EU because of the constant threat from Russia, which can attack in «a very short time» if countries do not take measures to deter it.

«Russia actively uses sabotage, hybrid attacks, manipulation of migrants, disinformation and fake news to destabilise our countries. Their readiness to fight Europe remains high, and unfortunately, I do not see this changing», the Prime Minister added.

As a reminder, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen recently presented a plan to rearm Europe, which will mobilise approximately €800 billion to strengthen defence.
