Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen is convinced that Europe needs to rearm and spend more on defence. However, there is not much time for this.
She said this before the start of an extraordinary EU summit on Thursday, 6 March, in Brussels, according to «Interfax-Ukraine».
«The scenario is to rearm Europe, to be very frank, and I don't think we have a lot of time. So, rearming Europe, spending on defence and deterrence is the most important message, and at the same time, of course, continuing to support Ukraine», she said.
Frederiksen stressed that peace in Europe cannot be achieved without sustainable peace in Ukraine.
At the same time, answering a question about French President Emmanuel Macron's proposal for a nuclear deterrent, she said that «we need to talk about everything, so all good ideas at the table should be part of our conversation».
As a reminder, the Kingdom of Denmark will launch a three-year assistance programme for Ukraine, which will be the largest since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. Out of 5.1 billion Danish kroner (€680 million), Mykolaiv region may receive ~60% of the funds.
