What the park looks like «Yunist» 2 years after it was taken away from private owners

Two years after the park «Yunist» in Mykolaiv returned from private lease to city ownership, its condition remains unsatisfactory. The territory looks neglected, and the infrastructure is worn out and dangerous for visitors.

The park is in an extremely poor state of repair: most of the benches are old or falling apart. In some places, they have been replaced by large car tyres. There are several playgrounds in the park, but only some of them are really suitable for safe use. Other structures are neglected, rusty and in disrepair.

A separate problem is the lack of rubbish bins. Due to the lack of garbage containers, locals have started using plastic boxes and pallets. In some places, there are piles of cut branches in the park.

The grass in the park is completely burnt out and most of the greenery has dried up.

The fence around the park «Yunist» and the walls of the buildings on its territory are covered with numerous inscriptions, including advertisements for websites and telegram channels selling illegal substances. Most of these inscriptions are unpainted.

History of the park's owners «Yunist»

Problems with the improvement of «Yunist» arose when the park was leased from the company «Praetor», which is associated with Mykolaiv businessman and MP Vladyslav Chaika.

Back in 2020, «NikVesti » reported that the territory was in a state of disrepair: the asphalt surface was destroyed, the benches were worn out, and the greenery was dried up. At that time, Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych repeatedly criticised the tenant for the lack of landscaping.

- The park «Yunist» is, it seems, leased for 50 or 30 years by the company «Praetor». This facility was transferred under Mayor Chaika. As far as I know, this company is associated with his son Vladislav or some relatives - I can't say whether this is inaccurate information, but it is leased. So, when Vladyslav Chaika comes to you as a candidate for mayor or deputy, ask him: Why is the park «Yunist» in such a state and when will he fix it up? If you rented it, then, as they say, pay for the paths, and don't just collect money on the rides," Oleksandr Senkevych said at the time.

In May last year, residents of Mykolaiv once again asked to clean up and remove garbage from the territory of the abandoned park «Yunist».

In June 2024, the park returned to city ownership after about 20 years of lease. The municipal enterprise «Mykolaiv Parks» confirmed that they had taken over the facility for maintenance at the end of 2023, as the tenant refused to renew the contract.

Nevertheless, two years after the change of ownership, the park has not received a proper renovation.

As a reminder, the executive committee of the Mykolaiv City Council did not approve the procedure for launching mechanised street and road cleaning with the equipment already purchased for the city.
