In Mykolaiv, there are plans to transfer the commemorative plaque honouring the city’s foundation – which was dismantled near the chess club – to the Mykolaiv Regional Local History Museum.

The relevant draft resolution has been published on the Mykolaiv City Council website, according to NikVesti.

The transfer was prompted by requests from the municipal enterprise «Mykolaiv Parks» and the Department of Culture, Nationalities and Religions of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration.

It should be noted that the commemorative plaque was removed on 30 April by staff of the «Mykolaiv Parks» municipal enterprise, on whose books the object is currently held.

Following the transfer, it will be assigned to the local history museum. The draft also specifies the memorial’s original cost as 188 thousand hryvnias, and its book value as 172,333 thousand hryvnias.

It should be noted that the memorial was dismantled following a request from Vadym Pozdniakov, co-founder of the «Decolonisation.Ukraine» project.

The monument’s creator, the renowned Mykolaiv sculptor Oleksii Baiborodin, explained that the text had been crafted by several artists working together. In October 2025, the artist and long-standing teacher at the Mykolaiv Children’s Art School passed away.

NikVesti submitted a freedom of information request to the Mykolaiv Department of Housing and Communal Services, asking for details of the cost of the removal. However, the Department did not disclose the figure.
