Sienkevych urged Mykolaiv residents to keep order around their houses

The mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Sienkevych, believes that residents should keep their courtyards tidy, in particular by not leaving rubbish near bins and not parking on green areas.

He expressed this opinion during an open staff meeting on Monday, 2 March, according to NikVesti.

According to him, after municipal workers remove rubbish from bins and clean up the area, some residents leave bags of waste next to the containers.

«The rubbish area is clean, there are four bins, they were taken away by Mykolaivkomtrans, everything has been cleaned up. But some idiot threw their rubbish bag next to the bins. Then two more bags appeared. You can see that the area has been cleaned up, swept, and the rubbish removed, but someone brought their bag back and left it there. And after that, they write to us: 'When will this stop? When will you start cleaning up the rubbish properly?',» said Oleksandr Sienkevych.

In particular, the mayor called on residents to organise themselves and take mutual responsibility.

«Someone drove onto the green area near the entrance and, when leaving, brought dirt and soil onto the road. A resident of the same entrance takes a photo and asks: 'When will you clean this up? How long will we live in dirt?' And who should clean it up? Perhaps the residents themselves should go out and make a comment to their neighbour who leaves rubbish or parks on the lawn. There are paid parking lots and equipped areas with hard surfaces. When I lived on PTZ, I walked 300 metres to a paid parking lot so as not to park my car on the green area near the entrance. People should not wait for 'the king to come and put things in order,' but should organise themselves. After all, it is not the mayor or an official who parks in the courtyard, but their neighbour. It is the residents themselves who should put their courtyard in order, rather than waiting for someone to come and decide who can park where. I understand that these words can be misinterpreted. But I believe that residents should take responsibility for their lives and for what is happening around them, rather than waiting for someone else to do everything for them,» added Oleksandr Sienkevych.

In Mykolaiv, the prosecutor's office has gone to court to demand that the city council eliminate the illegal landfill in the Ternivka neighbourhood.
