During four years of full-scale war, Russia has attacked Ukraine's energy system 5,796 times.
This was stated by Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal on Tuesday, 24 February.
According to the minister, energy infrastructure has been one of the key targets since the first days of the full-scale invasion. He noted that the Russians tried to plunge the country into darkness and cold.
«The enemy planned to plunge us into darkness and cold, but underestimated the professionalism of Ukrainian energy workers,» the minister emphasised.
He also reported that 247 energy sector workers had died in the line of duty over the past four years.
«The enemy carried out 5,796 attacks against our energy system. And after each attack, energy workers went on duty to repair everything as quickly as possible and restore light and heat to Ukrainian families. Despite the cold and shelling,» Denys Shmyhal emphasised.
It should be noted that the regions of Ukraine have presented Energy Resilience Plans, which include measures to protect critical infrastructure and ensure alternative and decentralised energy supplies.
