Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych will meet with the head of the regional service centre of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Hennadiy Pohorelov, to discuss how the Administrative Service Centres can provide services for issuing driving licences.

This was announced during a session of the Mykolaiv City Council today, 3 February, according to NikVesti.

As is well known, the building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs service centre in Mykolaiv is not equipped for people with disabilities. The regional service centre of the Ministry of Internal Affairs told us that this is currently impossible because the building is over 50 years old.

Later , in a comment to NikVesti, Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych stated that the city's Administrative Service Centres will be able to provide services for issuing driver's licences if «there is such a need».

«You can instruct your deputy for social issues, together with the management of the Administrative Service Centres, to explore the possibility of providing administrative services at the Ministry of Internal Affairs service centres on the basis of the Administrative Service Centres as an alternative for people with disabilities if the territorial centres of the Ministry of Internal Affairs are physically inaccessible,» suggested Yurii Stepanets, a member of the Mykolaiv City Council.

In his opinion, it is not known when people will be able to visit an accessible MIA service centre, so this is a «great opportunity».

«It is also worth consulting with the Main Service Centre of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on the legal and organisational mechanisms for providing such services and preparing proposals for the city council to ensure equal access for people with disabilities to these services — through ASCs or other accessible formats. I think this is a great opportunity, because we don't know when it will actually be possible to visit an accessible MIA service centre, and if there is a chance to provide these services through ASCs, then why not?» concluded Yurii Stepanets.

In turn, Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych announced that he would meet with Hennadii Pohorelov on Thursday to discuss this issue.

«Gennadii Pohorelov will come to me, and we will discuss how this can be organised: what needs to be changed, what decisions need to be made at the session, whether we will have to appeal to the Cabinet of Ministers, and so on,» said Oleksandr Sienkevych.

We would like to remind you that Nina Khmelevska, chief specialist of the communications sector of the Regional Service Centre of the State Service Centre of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Odesa, Mykolaiv and Kherson regions, said that people with disabilities can take exams at any service centre in Ukraine, including in Novyi Buh, where the premises are adapted to barrier-free requirements.
