The Bashtanka City Council has ordered an internal investigation into a possible violation of anti-corruption legislation, namely the late submission of annual declarations for 2021-2023.

As stated in the mayor's order, the basis for this was a submission from the Bashtanka District Prosecutor's Office on 14 October.

It is not known who is being investigated, as the information in the document is classified.

The city council formed a commission for the investigation, headed by the executive committee's administrator, Oleksandr Ziuzko. The commission also includes Deputy Mayor Oleksandr Vasyliev, specialists from the legal and human resources departments and other authorised employees. The commission is to draw up a report and submit it to the mayor. The investigation will last two months.

The document itself was signed by the City Council Secretary Inna Homerska. As it is known, the Bashtanka District Court removed from office the mayor Oleksandr Berehovyi, elected from the political party «Servant of the People».

The fact that the mayor of Bashtanka, Oleksandr Berehovyi, was served with a notice of suspicion became known on 19 August from the statement of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Ruslan Kravchenko. He is suspected of embezzling 1.2 million hryvnias for the purchase of clothing for military personnel. If found guilty, he faces 7 to 12 years in prison.

During the first court hearing, Oleksandr Berehovyi became ill. The mayor was released from the pre-trial detention centre the day after the court's decision to arrest him on 3 September. As reported by NikVesti his wife, Yelyzaveta Berehova, posted bail for him.
