On the night of 16 September, units of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine struck at the Saratov Oil Refinery in Russia.
This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
«Explosions and a fire were reported near the facility. The results of the attack are being clarified», the statement said.
According to the General Staff, the Saratov Oil Refinery specialises in the production of petrol, diesel fuel, fuel oil, various grades of bitumen, vacuum gas oil and industrial sulphur. In total, the refinery produces over 20 types of petroleum products.
In 2023, the company processed 4.8 million tonnes of raw materials. It is involved in meeting the needs of the Russian Armed Forces.
«The Defence Forces of Ukraine are consistently taking measures to undermine the military and economic potential of the Russian Federation, in particular its ability to provide the occupation forces with fuel, ammunition and weapons, as well as to stop the armed aggression against Ukraine», the General Staff said.
As a reminder, in August, the Ukrainian Defence Forces struck at the fuel and refuelling complex of the Sochi airport.
Also, the Security Service of Ukraine reported a special operation at the airfield «Saki» in the temporarily occupied Crimea. Ukrainian drones attacked five Russian fighters and an aircraft depot, and one aircraft was completely destroyed.
