Large-scale fire in Mykolaiv region: flames spread rapidly due to wind

A massive fire is raging near the village of Variushyne in the Mykolaiv region, which has intensified significantly in the last half hour due to strong wind gusts.

The fire has been going on for several hours — a tract near the village is on fire. Rescuers from the State Emergency Service have arrived at the scene. The situation is complicated by gusty winds. Rescuers are taking water from the wells of local residents.

The State Emergency Service reported that the fire engulfed the tract «Variushyne», which is part of the branch «Voznesensk Forestry» of the state enterprise «Mykolaiv Forestry».

The fire was extinguished by the local fire brigade «Pokrovka», as well as rescuers from the 11th State Fire and Rescue Unit (main and reserve units) and the 12th State Fire and Rescue Unit (two units). Forestry workers are working at the site.

The area of the fire is currently being determined.

Earlier it was reported that on the afternoon of 28 July, two dry grass fires occurred in the Mykolaiv region, which spread to the private sector.
