Missile strike on Odesa: number of wounded increased, foreigners among victims

During the daytime shelling of the Odesa port by a Russian Iskander missile, two people were killed and six others were injured. Among the victims are citizens of Syria.
This was reported by Oleksii Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction of Ukraine, Minister of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine.
According to him, the strike hit the area of one of the berths, where metal was being unloaded from a foreign vessel flying the flag of São Tomé and Príncipe.
«At the time, people were working at the berth, unloading metal from a foreign vessel flying the flag of Sao Tome and Principe. Two people died. One of them was a mechanical dockworker and the other was a truck driver. Our sincere condolences go out to the families of the victims. Six more people were injured. Among them are employees of a port operator and a driver. Two more are Syrian nationals, crew members of a civilian vessel. All necessary assistance is being provided to the people,» said Oleksii Kuleba.
The attack damaged the port infrastructure. In particular, portal cranes, warehouses and equipment were destroyed.
«Russia has been shelling our ports for four years in a row. It is hitting the infrastructure that connects Ukraine to the world. At the people who ensure the operation of critical facilities every day. Civilians. This shelling is yet another indication that Russia is deliberately trying to destroy our transport hubs, export opportunities, and the lives of civilians,» the minister said.
The minister stressed the need for a tough international response to Russia's attacks and emphasised that the world cannot ignore deliberate attacks on civilian objects and people.
Earlier, the head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, Oleh Kiper, reported two dead and three injured after the Russian attack.
