Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the amount of damage to the air in Mykolaiv region has amounted to 457 billion hryvnias.

This was reported by Nadiia Kryvtsun, chief specialist of the Department of State Environmental Supervision (Control) of Atmospheric Air in Mykolaiv Region, during a briefing on 2 July, NikVesti.

«Since the beginning of full-scale military operations, the inspection has been calculating the damage caused by armed aggression. From February 2022 to 1 July 2025, the damage to the atmosphere of Mykolaiv region has already been calculated on the basis of the relevant methodology, which reached 457 billion hryvnias», said Nadiia Kryvtsun.

Of this amount, 452 billion hryvnias are losses from the burning of forests, fields and other vegetation.

«This amount includes damage of 300 billion hryvnias, which the inspection calculated as a result of fires on the Kinburn Peninsula, where the total scale of fires reached 7,590 hectares. And the mass of pollutant emissions into the atmosphere during these fires amounted to 5.5 billion tonnes», added Nadiia Kryvtsun.

She also said that this year, the inspectorate conducted 70 calculations of damage from fires caused by shelling, and this damage amounted to 48 million hryvnias.

All the information collected on the calculated damages is submitted by the inspectorate to the operational headquarters of Ukraine for recording, organisation and entry into the Unified Register of Environmental Damage. This data will be used to recover damages in international courts.

As a reminder, 26 fires in open areas in Mykolaiv region caused almost 51 million hryvnias in damage over the past day. According to preliminary estimates, more than 16,600 tonnes of harmful substances were released into the atmosphere, of which 16,400 tonnes were carbon dioxide.
