One and a half metres of water in the basement: houses in Mykolaiv flooded due to a pipe break

In Mykolaiv, the basements of houses at 27 Teatralna Street were flooded due to a power outage. Residents complain about the slow response from the utility company.

According to Kateryna Voitovych, the contact centre at the Mykolaiv City Council, on 17 June, a serious water supply network failure occurred in their building — a pipe burst in the basement.

As a result, the room was flooded with water up to one and a half metres. The water was turned off only late in the evening. According to the woman, on 18 and 19 June, there were no actions taken by the water utility or the State Emergency Service during the day.

She also said that the arriving water also flooded the basements of neighbouring houses, there is a subsidence of the soil, and people were left without water supply.

On the morning of 20 June, the author of the post reported that the utility company had begun to repair the pipe.

Earlier it was reported that residents of Mykolaiv were outraged by the constant piles of rubbish near their houses at 34 Oliinyk Street, which it is unclear who is supposed to clean. After that, the management company «City for People Mykolaiv» stated that it was not their responsibility to clean the area around the garbage containers at 34 Oliinyk Street.
