Windows shattered, doors smashed and cars burned: Mykolaiv residents tell how they survived the night shelling of the city

Last night, Russian troops attacked Mykolaiv with drones. As a result of the strikes, windows in more than 30 high-rise buildings were smashed, and many cars were damaged.

Residents of the high-rise buildings affected by the shelling told NikVesti how they survived the night and how they are trying to recover from the enemy attack.

Law enforcement officers evacuated residents from the affected buildings. As a result of the shelling, 10 residents of Mykolaiv were injured.

Ilona Fasenko, who moved to Mykolaiv from Kakhovka, Kherson Oblast, after the start of the full-scale invasion, said she was miraculously unharmed. She and her child were hiding in the corridor.

«We were sleeping, we did not monitor the alarm. We heard a big explosion, the curtains went up to the ceiling, the windows flew out. It was lucky that I moved the furniture away from the windows. If we had slept under the window, I don't know what would have happened. We saw the fire, people started screaming. We have a one-year-old child. We grabbed her and ran out into the corridor. The bombing was heavy, the metal doors were moving. The apartment across the hall caught fire from us, the gas pipe was damaged. I am grateful to the rescuers, they arrived quickly», the woman recalls.

A local resident Vitalii, showing the consequences of the attack on his house, said that his apartment was damaged by the blast wave, and the apartments next door caught fire

«Even our interior doors were torn in half. It's like an earthquake inside the apartment. My car was damaged», Vitalii said.

People say that at night between 02:48 and 02:57 they heard the sounds of unmanned aerial vehicles and began to hide in the corridors. The falling debris and the blast wave damaged 30 apartment buildings in the city.

«Around 02:45 we heard a drone, it was quite close. We ran into the corridor and hid. 10-15 seconds passed and Shahed drone was already here. The windows were smashed. Two of the neighbours' cars, which were parked, burned down. My car was also parked, thank God it didn't burn down», says one of the victims.

«Thank God we are alive with my mother. We were very scared. The apartment is damaged, the windows and the roof are damaged. We are grateful that they are distributing stoves now... A woman from the second floor, her window and balcony unit fell on her, right on her bed. She was shaking here, doctors helped her, brought everything. She was sick, stressed, they gave her a sedative», adds one of the victims.

As a reminder, on 10 April, the Russian army launched a group of attack drones on the territory of Mykolaiv region. During the attack, fires broke out in two districts in Mykolaiv.

Later, it became known that on the night of 10 April, the air defence forces destroyed 28 drones over Mykolaiv region «Shahed 131/136».

Law enforcement officials have already opened criminal proceedings over the night shelling on the grounds of war crimes (Article 438(1) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
