Official to be tried in Odesa region for overpayment of money during procurement of special equipment

The head of the housing and communal services department of one of the village councils of Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district will be tried in Odesa region. He is suspected of abuse of office in the purchase of special equipment for the community.

According to the Main Directorate of the National Police of Ukraine in Odesa region, the official was supposed to purchase two dump trucks at average market prices, but entered into a contract with an entrepreneur whose price was significantly overstated. This decision caused the community losses of over 600,000 hryvnias, which was confirmed by a forensic examination.

Law enforcement officers removed him from office. He is charged with abuse of office (Article 364 (1) of the Criminal Code). If found guilty, the man faces up to three years in prison with a possible fine and a ban on holding certain positions.

As a reminder, an official of a municipal institution accused of purchasing generators for the city's schools at an inflated price will also be tried in Odesa. The overpayment amounted to over 1.3 million hryvnias.

In addition, a deputy of the Odesa Regional Council will be tried on charges of embezzlement of budget funds during the purchase of street lamps.
