After the storms, fuel oil spilled from Russian tankers in the recreational area of «Katranka» near the Danube Biosphere Reserve and «Tuzly Estuary» washed up on the sandy embankment in the storm, which was spilled after the accident of Russian tankers in the Kerch Strait.
This was reported on 24 January by Ivan Rusev, Doctor of Biological Sciences and Head of the Research Department of the National Park «Tuzly Estuaries».
«Against the backdrop of large-scale negative impacts on the Black Sea and the killing of tens of thousands of dolphins during the full-scale invasion of the racists, against the backdrop of the disaster from the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station dam, this eco-disaster will be another negative and significant addition to the gradual death of life in the Black Sea», Ivan Rusiev wrote.
He also added that the national park team is currently inspecting various areas of the spoil heap to determine the extent of the pollution.
Earlier it was reported that fuel oil spilled as a result of the Russian tanker accident in the Black Sea could reach the coast of Odesa and Mykolaiv.
The accident of Russian tankers
On 15 December, near Cape Panagia in the Kerch Strait , the «Volgoneft tanker» ran aground, with 4 tonnes of fuel oil leaking into the sea. Later it became known that another tanker, the «Volgoneft-239», began to sink next. Its hull broke into two parts after being hit by a wave.
The leakage of fuel oil from two Russian tankers in the Black Sea caused a large-scale environmental disaster. The damage caused to the Black Sea ecosystem exceeds $14 billion.
Animal rights activists have recorded 32 deaths of cetaceans, including whales, dolphins and porpoises, following the accident with two Russian oil tankers «Volgoneft-212» and «Volgoneft-239». The deaths are most likely related to the fuel oil spill, which has already reached Feodosia, Alushta and Sudak.
