The Russian military in Donetsk region allegedly shot six Ukrainian prisoners of war. Law enforcement officials have launched an investigation.
According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, according to preliminary data, during the storming of Ukrainian troops' positions in Donetsk region, Russians captured six Ukrainian servicemen and shot them dead.
«The shooting of prisoners of war is a serious violation of the Geneva Convention relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War and is classified as a serious international crime. Investigative actions are currently underway to establish all the circumstances of the crime and the persons involved in its commission», the statement said.
Law enforcement officers have launched a pre-trial investigation into the commission of a war crime that resulted in the death of people (Article 438 (2) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Earlier, Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets said that another video of the shooting of unarmed Ukrainian prisoners of war by the Russian military was being circulated online.
«In the video, the occupiers recorded their own crime — shooting six Ukrainian soldiers who had been captured in the back. The video ends when the seventh soldier lies on the ground, his fate unknown. Each of the captured soldiers is shot in front of their fellow soldiers», he said.
Earlier it was reported that in early January, Russian soldiers shot three Ukrainian prisoners of war in Donetsk region.
