On Friday, 18 April, a practical workshop for journalists and media students was held in Mykolaiv «Fact vs Fake: Media Education for Journalists».
This was reported by the correspondent of NikVesti.
The workshop consisted of two parts: the first was dedicated to recognising fakes — participants learned how to avoid becoming part of an information war, and how to identify manipulations and hidden disinformation in texts and visual materials. The second part of the workshop focused on fact-checking: they discussed tools for verifying information, images and videos, and considered an algorithm of actions in case of spreading false information.
«In times of full-scale war, journalists work under tremendous pressure, both informational and emotional. That is why it is very important to have tools that help to distinguish between truth and fake, not to fall into the traps of disinformation and remain professional. We are holding this workshop to support our colleagues and remind them that quality journalism starts with verified information,» said Anna Hakman, project organiser.
The speakers at the event were Alisa Melik-Adamian, a managing editor and reporter at NikVesti who specialises in covering war crimes trials, and Alina Kvitko, a reporter at NikVesti who writes about politics and reforms, as well as creates photo reports and interviews.
