The head of the Mykolaiv regional military administration, Vitalii Kim, said that the increase in salaries for medical workers in Ochakiv helped curb the outflow of specialists.

He said this in an interview with «Novyny.LIVE», NikVesti writes.

As you know, there is only the Ochakiv Multidisciplinary Hospital in the city, which provides various services to residents. As of October, the hospital employed 124 people.

«The issue of raising salaries for doctors is currently being raised. Minister Liashko (Minister of Health of Ukraine Viktor Liashko, — note) did this for Ochakiv, a separate package to increase salaries. And the doctors did come. We did another way with international partners from Denmark — they built interesting houses for doctors in Domanivka. [...] The hospital was able to increase the salaries of its doctors as part of its internal redistribution, and this made it possible for them not to leave. That is, we often have these point problems and a point solution at the state level. That's how it works,» he said.

How is the local hospital doing?

As of October, about 7,500 people live in Ochakiv. This is half of the pre-war population, as described in the article NikVesti «The enemy is 3.5 km away. Ochakiv, a Resort Turned Frontline Town».

If there are victims of shelling in Ochakiv, they are first taken to the local hospital. Here they are given first aid, stabilised and, if necessary, taken to hospitals in Mykolaiv or Odesa.

Head doctor Valerii Knitel believes that the biggest problem for the centre is the shortage of doctors. For obvious reasons, young specialists do not want to come to a frontline city to work in a local hospital.

Over the four years of its operation, the hospital's windows have been blown out several times as a result of shelling in Ochakiv.
