Svitlana Babarika, a deputy of the Mykolaiv City Council, suggested that the budget commission return to the pre-war practice of analysing budget expenditures.
This was discussed at a meeting of the budget commission of the Mykolaiv City Council on 26 September, according to NikVesti.
The deputy voiced this proposal in the context of raising the issue of the possibility of using budget funds for the needs of specific districts.
«Why can't we return to the kind of scrutiny of the budget that we had in '21? Do you remember those distributions, those analyses?» she asked the head of the commission, Fedir Panchenko.
Fedir Panchenko replied that it was he who had initiated this practice, but that the majority of the commissioners had rejected it:
«I proposed such an inquiry, and our commission refused. Not me, but the majority. I was told at the time: 'Fedir Borysovych, you have nothing to do, so you do this',» he said.
The discussion was supported by MP Serhii Kantor, who clarified that in 2021 there were reasons for this decision to work with the budget, and in 2022 the war prevented this.
However, the deputy said she did not remember such a vote and suggested raising the issue again.
As reported earlier, Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych said he would seek a compromise for further dialogue with the deputy corps to «unblock» the work of the sessions of the Mykolaiv City Council.
