Ukraine will receive $432 million from the World Bank to restore transport infrastructure

Relevant agreements were signed in Kyiv between the Ministry of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine and the World Bank as part of the DRIVE project, the ministry said.

It is noted that Ukraine will receive the first tranche for the project this month. In total, the project envisages raising $432 million in funding.

According to the Ministry of Community Development, the main purpose of the funding is to restore transport infrastructure. The project envisages major repairs of roads and bridges in 19 regions of Ukraine, reform of national highways, installation of modular bridges, as well as technical assistance and project management. All projects are planned to be implemented during 2025-2028.

The main three areas of the project are:

  • Support for the national road network — $270.48 million, which will be used to repair roads and bridges, maintain them, carry out capital works, support design and supervise construction. Another $90 million will be spent on reforming roads and the transport sector.
  • USD 39 million will be used to install emergency modular road bridges and climate-smart preservation of key links in the road network.
  • Technical assistance and project management — $10 million.
