Government to allocate €100 million from EIB to restore water supply

The government will allocate €100 million from the European Investment Bank under the Ukraine Facility programme to restore water supply and sewerage.

This was announced by Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal during a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.

According to him, the resources will be used to rebuild water supply and sewage systems and bring them up to modern standards. Denys Shmyhal emphasised that the need for reconstruction of water supply and sewerage exceeds 11 billion dollars.

He noted that the Government has decided to receive a new tranche of 100 million euros from the European Investment Bank to restore critical and social infrastructure.

«We are talking about the reconstruction of water supply and heating, education, healthcare, and housing for internally displaced persons. Thanks to cooperation with the EIB, we are implementing more than 400 projects under this programme, some of which have already been completed. More than 200 more will be finalised this year and next year», Denys Shmyhal said.

The Prime Minister also added that the total amount of all EIB projects in Ukraine today is about 4.3 billion euros. They relate to critical infrastructure, housing, energy, transport, education, social policy, and digitalisation.

As a reminder, Mykolaiv region was included in the list of regions where projects for the construction, reconstruction and overhaul of water supply and sewerage systems are being implemented.
