Elections in the United States are a complex process involving elections at various levels, including presidential, congressional, local, and municipal elections. Presidential elections, held every four years, are among the most influential in global politics. A key feature of U.S. presidential elections is the Electoral College system: citizens vote not directly for a candidate, but for electors, who then choose the president in the Electoral College. Each state has a designated number of electors based on population, which gives states more or fewer votes in the overall system.

In addition to presidential elections, elections to the U.S. Congress also play a significant role. Congress consists of two chambers: the House of Representatives, where members are elected for two-year terms, and the Senate, where senators are elected for six-year terms. Congress plays a major role in lawmaking, financial and foreign policy, and oversight of the executive branch.

In local elections, voters choose governors, legislators, judges, and other officials, significantly impacting local policies. U.S. elections are closely followed worldwide, as the outcomes have a considerable impact not only on the country but also on international relations, including with Ukraine.
